This certificate will provide you with training in all practical and theoretical areas of the wall and floor tiling trade.
Tasks
Tilers:
- Measure and calculate materials required
- Apply levelling procedures
- Handle and attach wall and floor tiling materials effectively
- Repair wall and floor tiles
- Read plans and mark out the surfaces to be tiled
- Use various tools and equipment safely
- Prepare surfaces for tiling
Time
The number of years expected to complete this apprenticeship is between three and four years.
Career
Most wall and floor tilers are either self employed or work for privately owned firms which work on contract. Some people are employed by firms manufacturing tiles. These are located mainly in cities and wherever large scale building projects are under construction. With the necessary trade experience and capital a tradesperson may become self employed. Demand for this occupation is dependent on the level of activity in the building industry.
Specialisation: mosaic tiler, ceramic tiler, wall and floor tile fixer.

Units
The current Certificate III qualification for Wall and Floor Tiling requires students to successfully complete 19 units of competency to achieve the credential. Of these 19 units, 16 are compulsory and a further three elective units.

Costs
Fees for these units vary. Students are also expected to cover the cost of clothing, equipment, safety glasses, tools and other materials.
